Tomorrow is the biggest game of the year for both Ole Miss (3-4) and Mississippi State (2-5) as the two will once again vie for the Golden Egg.
For the first time in almost two decades, the Egg Bowl won’t be the regular season finaleone of just eight years ever with that being the casewith the Rebels leading the overall series 62-46-6.
Theres no doubt in my mind that tomorrow is going to be a close game as (1) its one of college footballs biggest rivalries, and (2) Mississippi States defense ranks among the upper half of the league while Ole Miss boasts the conferences most efficient offense.
So, who will win?
Before this past Saturday, I would have said Ole Miss is a shoo-in to get back the Golden Egg for the first time since 2017. However, after watching the Bulldogs performance versus Georgia, I cannot say that I have that same confidence in the Rebels.
TAKE A LOOK BACK: The 2019 Egg Bowl
During that contest in Athens, Mississippi State tested out some new blood with true freshmen, led by QB Will Rogers and WR Jaden Walley, accounting for 61 percent of the teams total offense. Rogers, in his second career start, posted 41 completionsgood enough for second in MSU historyand Walley became the first freshman to surpass 100 receiving yards in a game since Chad Bumphis did it in 2009.
For the Rebels, their offense put up a whopping 59 points while giving up an embarrassing 42 points and 548 yards against South Carolina.
With Mike Leachs offense finally heating up and Lane Kiffins defense continuing forward as one of the worst units in America, I like the Bulldogs. Expect Mississippi State to easily cover the spread (+10) and dont be too surprised when they leave Oxford tomorrow night with the Golden Egg in hand.
