COVID-19 Update: 97 new cases and 6 additional deaths

Today, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is reporting 97 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi.

Six new deaths have also been confirmed, in Coahoma, Harrison, Lauderdale, Pearl River, and Wilkinson counties.

The state total of cases since March 11 now stands at 1,455, with 35 deaths.

Outbreaks in long-term care facilities (LTCs)

Long-term care (LTC) facilities like nursing homes are considered high risk locations because their residents are older or in poor health. Even one case of COVID-19 in these facilities among residents or employees is considered an outbreak. The MSDH investigates residents, staff and close contacts of infected individuals for possible exposure. The number of LTC facilities with outbreaks for each county are shown below:
