Governor lifts statewide burn ban

Governor Phil Bryant has lifted the statewide burn ban, effective immediately.

Bryant says, “Despite the lifting of the statewide burn ban, there are a number of counties that will remain under burn bans, enacted by the Board of Supervisors.”

As provided by the Mississippi Forestry Commission, below is a list of counties with active burn bans and when they expire.

Types of Exemptions:

  1. No exemptions from this burn ban
  2. Mississippi Forestry Commission
  3. Certified Burn Managers
  4. County Fire Services
  5. Commercial contractors with heavy construction equipment, providing that said burn meets Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) regulations. MDEQ’s open burning regulations can be found on their website, click here for more information.
  6. Agricultural field burn
