MEC Capital Day Recap

Mississippi Economic Council hosted Capital Day with a variety of speakers throughout the morning.

Governor-elect Tate Reeves spoke first regarding his stance on workforce development and what he expects during his term as Governor.

“I want to continue building on the success of Governor Bryant and Governor Haley Barbour when they were in office,” Reeves said.

Over the last several years, many Mississippians were able to find and lock in jobs and now a higher employment rate.

“We have grown so much as a state that I want to keep that going in the right direction…,” Reeves said. “We have come from people aimlessly searching for jobs to jobs actually searching for people.”

Reeves then left to hold his last Senate session and gaveled out for the last time as Lt. Governor in his 2 year term. His successor, Lt. Governor-elect, Delbert Hosemann will be sworn-in today to take over the Senate.

Tate Reeves will be inaugurated as Governor on January 14th.

Secretary of State-Elect, Michael Watson was next up to speak.

Watson spoke primarily of his excitement for job creation and for the future of Mississippi.

Watson will be sworn in today as the Secretary of State after serving as the Senator for the 51st district of Mississippi.

Along with Reeves and Watson, Scott Waller, the president and CEO of the Mississippi Economic Council spoke and a panel was hosted discussing the strategic priority for Business Success and Community Growth.
