Mississippi delegation weighs in on impeachment inquiry

A whistleblower’s complaint alleging President Trump asked the President of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden in exchange for security assistance is taking center stage.  On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry.

Here is what some of Mississippi’s delegation had to say:

Congressman Steven Palazzo

“This is undoubtedly the lowest political attack I’ve witnessed since coming to Congress. Pelosi and her cronies have been waiting for this day since the moment President Trump was sworn into office. I fully believe President Trump has nothing to hide and that this investigation is a continuation of the liberal witch hunt against him. This is a sad day for our country.”

Congressman Michael Guest

“Democrats in this Congress have repeatedly relied on unfounded claims to fulfill their desire of impeaching a president who was democratically elected by the American people,” Guest said. “I have little confidence that this inquiry is motivated by anything other than the political games that so many in the Democratic Party prefer over their responsibility to this nation. Americans deserve an infrastructure bill, immigration reform, and solutions to the opioid drug crisis. I will continue to work with those Members of Congress who are focused on creating a better future for our nation instead of a partisan impeachment inquiry. I urge Speaker Pelosi to abandon this reckless attack on our President and our democracy and to join us in getting back to work on the issues that the American people elected us to solve.”

Congressman Bennie Thompson

“I support the U.S. House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry. The President’s conversation with the Ukrainian officials was against the law. He requested that they investigate a United States citizen in an effort to help him steal another election. Additionally, the administration blocked the Inspector General from disclosing the whistleblower complaint. As a nation, we have no other alternative. We must protect our constitution and the United States of America’s national security. The President has abused his power, obstructed justice, and violated his oath of office. Moreover, the President of the United States of America should not put his political interests over our national security. No one is above the law. Therefore, he must be impeached and subsequently removed from office.”

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith

“I’m disappointed, but not surprised, House Democrats have decided to undertake a divisive impeachment inquiry.  It’s hard to overlook the fact that calls to remove President Trump started the minute he won the election, and the grasping at straws hasn’t ever stopped.”

Senator Roger Wicker

“The political left has made a bad habit of drawing conclusions about President Trump without knowing all of the facts. It appears they have done so again. The transcript of the President’s phone call provides no evidence of wrongdoing.”
