Becky Currie is not only a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, but she is also a registered nurse doing her best to help put a stop to the COVID-19 outbreak.
On Wednesday, she joined Paul Gallo on The Gallo Show to talk about subjects such as the stay-home order, testing, and the use of chloroquine.
“The stay-at-home order is working, believe it or not,” Currie said. “Just think if people were still out and about.”
Currie also pointed out that the primary reason for the enactment of the stay-home order is asymptomatic cases. According to CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, 1 in 4 carriers may be asymptomatic.
This newfound statistic could be bad news for Mississippi as many employers prior to the April 1st stay-home order were allowing employees to continue working if they were not running a fever.
“If you’re running fever, you’ve had it for a long time anyways,” Currie said.
Regarding the testing, Currie considers the 8-day wait period to be “a problem.” Due to lengthy wait periods, she believes early testing has to be a priority.
“I think early testing is the answer,” Currie said. “It’s best to know.”
At the tail end of the interview, Currie goes on to advocate for the use of the highly-scrutinized chloroquine, noting that Mississippi doctors have been using the antimalarial drug with success.
“Here is something that works and it’s easily accessible,” Currie said. “You don’t withhold lifesaving medicine.”
