The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 2,205 new cases of COVID-19.
Todays report brings the states total number of cases up to 183,300. With the confirmation of *48 additional deaths, 4,252 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
*MSDH Note: 16 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between November 25 and December 10, identified from death certificate reports.
Hospitalizations remain at an all-item high, a trend that State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says is likely to continue.
Its ugly right now, and its about to get a whole lot uglier, he said. Theres no way to imagine that these thousands and thousands of backlogged cases are not going to translate eventually into hospitalized patients and ICU patients We see a real avalanche hitting the healthcare system soon.”
Monday, Dr. Dobbs and several other top health officials were the first Mississippians to be vaccinated at the state accepted its initial 25,000 dose allotment of the Pfizer vaccine.
An estimated 148,466 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
