MSDH confirms record-high 3,255 new COVID-19 cases

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 3,255 new COVID-19 cases—setting a new record high in terms of a one-day increase. 

The latest report brings the state’s total number of cases up to 231,490. With the confirmation of 48 additional deaths, 5,061 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

Overall hospital data is not currently available as the MSDH works through technical issues on their website. 

In a tweet this morning, the MSDH explained that that the following COVID-19 testing sites will be closed due to inclement weather: 

  • Carroll County
  • Marshall County
  • Panola County
  • Tallahatchie County
  • Yalobusha County

Wednesday, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs announced that vaccination appointments are now available to those over the age of 75 in addition to healthcare workers as the MSDH pushes forward with its distribution plan. For more information, visit  https://covidvaccine.umc.edu or call 877-978-6453.
