One week left to apply for federal disaster aid

Mississippi residents affected by last February’s storms and flooding have until Tuesday, Nov. 19 to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster assistance.

Survivors who have storm-damaged property in Clay, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lowndes, Monroe, Sharkey, Warren and Yazoo counties may be eligible for FEMA assistance to help cover disaster-related expenses, including rent, essential home repairs and other disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

You can apply for disaster assistance by visiting or by calling 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585). The toll-free FEMA Helpline is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (ET) daily. Multi-lingual operators are available.

Homeowners and renters (as well as nonprofit organizations and businesses of all sizes) also have until Nov. 19 to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  Homeowners may be eligible for up to $200,000 in loans for home repair or replacement. Homeowners and renters can apply for up to $40,000 in loans to repair or replace personal property.
