Mississippi State has become quite adept in making changes at the quarterback position this season, so it should come as no shock as the final contest of the year will feature one more switch.

Senior Tommy Stevens will draw the start over true freshman Garrett Shrader, who is out with what head coach Joe Moorhead termed as an “upper-body” injury. This will be Stevens’ eighth start of the season, he missed the season finale against Ole Miss with an upper-body injury of his own. Moorhead listed junior Keytaon Thompson as the backup to Stevens and reported that the team expects Shrader to join them prior to kickoff of the Music City Bowl on Monday.

Reports surfaced over the weekend and were confirmed by Paul Jones and Steve Robertson of 247Sports that Shrader had been involved in an altercation with junior linebacker Willie Gay, and that had led to this injury. Those reports were not confirmed by Moorhead or anyone from Mississippi State on Thursday.
